Winter ‘25 ATM series: Embodied Self Care from Your Head to your Feet
Winter ‘25 ATM series: Embodied Self Care from Your Head to your Feet
There’s one conversation (politics aside ) that I’ve now had with multiple people this past year. I’ll be talking to a friend, and they’ll throw out that they’re having back pain, then sigh and say, ‘You know how it is when you get older.’
And truthfully, I don’t.
Now, before you get annoyed and chuck your phone at a nearby human, It’s not that I’ve never had back pain. Quite the opposite. I started having debilitating back pain at a young age. But I feel and move so much better now at the age of… 5 🙄, than I did 10 years ago at the age of .... -5 (whatever. stay with me). The TMI version? I move with much more ease and so much less pain now, even with (and really in spite of) a multilevel spinal fusion. And If I do have pain, I know how make to make it better. And that’s solely because (after trying just about everything), I started seriously doing Feldenkrais.
Most of us have some kind of limitation, be it physical or psychological that affects how we move and hold ourselves in the world. (And some of us have more than others. And that can include intense or chronic illness that means you’re starting in different ballpark.) But because of the way the brain and nervous system works, you can learn to re-organize your neuromuscular patterns (around the limitations) to feel better inch by inch, no matter where your starting point is and what your limitations are. Reorganizing those patterns not only reduces pain, but means you’ll be able to do more with less effort. Because hard truth: you don’t have to feel worse as you get older. Yes, even with cartilage breakdowns, joint replacements, etc.
But like anything you want to become better at, whether yoga, piano, or climbing trees, it’s a process. Join me for a new Feldenkrais class series and start on that path! A Tune Up From Your Head to Your Feet. Embodied Self Care

**If you’re joining from a country that doesn’t operate on the ridiculous wealth-scale of the U.S., please pay what would be customary for such classes where you live.
** NOTE: If you’ve dealt with a little more than your fair share of hurdles or have an acute injury, doing a combo of private, hands-on sessions and classes might be what’s right for you. I’m happy to chat to see what the right fit is, do private sessions, and/or find a good practitioner for you where you’re located.
